Associate Professor Dr. Kraiwood Kiattikomol, President of King Mongkut University of Technology-Thonburi said, “Since 1992, The Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KMUTT has been producing qualified environmental engineers for the government and private sectors. As the current focus on environmental concerns has led to increasing demand for environmental engineers, it is important to find youth who are interested in environmental management and would like to work in this area. Through the cooperation with Honda, we have found many students who have the potential and interest to be environmental engineers. Therefore, we have initiated this academic cooperation called, the “KMUTT – Honda: Future Green Engineer” program to give an opportunity to those students who have attended the project to study for a bachelor degree at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KMUTT in 2009.” |

Piya Chaiphet, 18, a student at the Sawas Ratana Pimuk School, Trang was granted the Phet Phra Chomklao Scholarship to study environmental engineering, at the Engineering Faculty, KMUTT. He said, “I am very glad to be chosen to study at the Environmental Engineering Department – as it is a dream come true for me. Piya, or Ble, is the leading force of the School Environment IV project. He joined the science club where he has run several activities. He created a naturally air-conditioned classroom by placing egg cartons for heat insulation on cantilevered slabs and also decorated them with water plants. As a result, the room temperature has been reduced by 5 degrees Celsius. Ble’s other unique creations including the production of enzyme ionic plasma that is used to repel insects and EM water fermentation to kill bacteria in the waste water drainage system at the food canteens. He also assists the other two science clubs in terms of problem solving and scientific calculations. Those clubs are the Natural Environment Club and the Researcher Club in which their outstanding inventions are respectively a solar oven and a low cost closed charcoal-fuelled stove. |
